40th Anniversary with Salon de Provence 13th/14th/15th June 2014

It was a most enjoyable celebration weekend, we welcomed 9 guests from Salon de Provence, 2 from Wertheim and two from Szentendre, all were hosted and a big thank you to our host families for making the visit such a success. Our Friday night get together was a relaxed evening with music from a steel band drummer. The food provided by the members was more like a banquet and most appreciated by all.

To mark the occasion a tree planting in Bloomfield Park with the Mayor of Huntingdon Councillor Bill Hensley went well.

Lunch and a flying display at the Raptor centre followed and was a pleasant interlude. Saturday night dinner started off sedately with speeches and gifts exchanged, followed by entertainment by Malcolm Talbot’s jazz band, who incidentally is very popular in Wertheim, the music then hotted up and the evening turned into a very lively, you could almost say wild event.

On Sunday we took the group on the guided bus to Cambridge, surprisingly the trip itself proved very interesting to the guests especially riding on the top of a double deck bus. We had a tour of Magdalene College by Dr Simon Stoddart with a talk on the archaeological finds in what he referred to as ‘pre history’.

Our Sunday evening meal at the Exhibition in Godmanchester was well attended and judging by the chatter, enjoyed by all. All too soon the weekend was over, hectic as always but 40 years of friendship is something to celebrate and we have received some very complimentary ‘thanks for a wonderful time’ from guests.
