Visits to Twinned Towns

A few years ago the Association started a series of mini-holidays to our twin towns.  These are organised by Members for Members and normally cater for about 20 people.   Unlike the many city-breaks advertised in the newspapers, these are to towns where we enjoy a very personal welcome. The excursions are just that extra bit special – we even know some of the coach drivers.

From Salon we have visited the dramatic Camargue with its black bulls and famous white horses, while Salon itself clusters around one of the oldest fortresses in France.

Wertheim, sitting on the confluence of the Main and the Tauber is a delight of old, half-timbered houses and boasts a splendid castle.  It is also a great centre for visiting many other historical towns and cities.

Szentendre is another delightful old town, this time on the bank of the Danube.  It has a strong tradition of folkdance and art and is only half an hour away from Budapest.

Gubbio, an ancient town located in the north-eastern part of the Italian region of Umbria. Well known for medieval palaces, cathedrals and other historic buildings as well as its many festivals including the 'Race of the Ceri' held on 15th May each year.

They all have different specialities: Wertheim for glass, Salon for olive oil soap, Szentendre for marzipan and Gubbio for its traditional truffles..  They all have wonderful cafes and restaurants – that great café culture that we have yet to capture in UK.
