Wertheim Russian Choir Article – 2017

During the first weekend in March, the Huntingdon/Godmanchester Twinning Association were pleased to welcome a Russian Orthodox Choir from its German Twin Town Wertheim to give 2 concerts - one on Saturday evening in the Town Hall as part of a Social Twinning Event and the other on Sunday in the Brampton Mary Magdalene Parish Church, where generous donations went to the Church.

Voluntary members of the Association had arranged an extensive programme for the 22 people from Wertheim with a visit to Ely Cathedral, the Stained Glass Museum, Cambridge and London. They also organised the Social Evening in the Town Hall as well as providing most of the food themselves. People attending the concerts were treated to an outstanding, colourful and moving performance, which was rewarded by standing ovations as it had brought smiles to people’s faces as well as tears to their eyes.

Most Choir members were hosted privately and special friendships were developed in spite of different cultures and language barriers. And once again the Twinning Idea of better understanding, greater knowledge and true friendship between people of different countries was proven.
